Absolutely not. Every single rand counts and is used immediately. R50 covers a day of nappies. R150 covers a week of formula. There is no amount too small.

Yes, and we deeply appreciate it! Monthly donors provide the stability that allows us to plan ahead and ensure we never run out of essentials.

Simply set up a monthly debit order or recurring payment from your banking app using our banking details, with your name as the reference.

💡WhatsApp Hannell to let us know you’ve set up a monthly donation — she’ll personally thank you and keep you updated on the impact.

Yes. As a registered NPO (283-455 NPO), we can issue Section 18A tax certificates for qualifying donations. This means your donation may be tax-deductible.

Please contact us after donating to request your certificate.

100% of your donation goes directly to the babies in our care. We use funds to purchase formula, nappies, clothing, toiletries, and medical supplies.

We do not use donations for admin costs or salaries. Every rand has a direct, immediate impact on a baby’s daily life.

Donating Items

Our highest-need items are always nappies (sizes 0–3), baby formula (Novalac AR 1, Nan Optipro 1, Infacare 1), and baby wipes.

We also regularly need Pigeon Soft Touch bottles, receiving and swaddle blankets, Epimax cream, cotton balls, and baby medicines like Reuterina drops and Viburcol.

Absolutely — this is one of the easiest ways to help! Order from any retailer (Takealot, Clicks, Dischem, Checkers Sixty60, etc.) and courier directly to our address.

Contact us first to get the delivery address, and please let Hannell know when to expect a delivery.

Yes, we gladly accept good-quality second-hand clothing, blankets, and baby equipment. Items should be clean and in good condition.

We do not accept used bottles, teats, dummies, or open hygiene/medical products for safety reasons.

Volunteering

Simply fill in the form on our Volunteer page or contact Hannell directly via WhatsApp. Tell us a bit about yourself, your availability, and what you’d like to do.

We’ll schedule a quick orientation so you understand our home, the babies, and our protocols before your first shift.

No experience is required at all. A warm heart and a willingness to learn is everything we need. We pair new volunteers with experienced carers and provide a thorough orientation.

It depends entirely on the role. Flexible roles typically involve a few hours per week, and we work around your schedule. Once-off opportunities — like donation drives, events, or crafting days — require just a few hours on a single day.

Volunteers must be 18 or older for direct baby care roles. Younger volunteers (with parental consent) are welcome to participate in fundraising events, donation drives, and crafting days.

Yes! Regular volunteers receive a reference letter and certificate of service upon request. This is especially useful for students, those doing community service hours, or anyone building a CV.

Yes! We have several remote roles including social media management, graphic design, admin support, and content creation. If you have a skill that could benefit Tiny Feet, we’d love to hear from you.

🍼

The Babies

We care for babies from newborns up to 12 months old who have been abandoned, abused, removed from unsafe homes, or given up for adoption.

We are a temporary place of safety — babies stay with us until they are placed with their forever families or until a suitable long-term arrangement is made.

The number varies depending on the needs of the community at any given time. We operate from a family home, ensuring each baby receives personal, attentive care — not institutional volume care.

Tiny Feet is not an adoption agency. We are a temporary place of safety. Adoption processes are handled through accredited adoption agencies and the South African Department of Social Development.

If you are interested in adoption, we can point you in the right direction. Please contact us.

Most of our babies are eventually placed with their forever families through the adoption process, or are returned to stable family members once safe arrangements have been made.

Every baby leaves Tiny Feet having been held, loved, and given the best possible start — and that’s what makes it all worthwhile.

Please contact Hannell urgently via WhatsApp on +27 61 892 3048 or call directly. In an emergency, please also contact your local South African Police Service (SAPS) or Department of Social Development.

🚨In a life-threatening emergency, always call 10111 (SAPS) or 021 483 9992 (Western Cape DSD) first.

About Tiny Feet

Yes. Tiny Feet Baby Safehouse is a fully registered non-profit organisation in South Africa. Our NPO registration number is 283-455 NPO.

Tiny Feet was founded by Hannell Schonken in 2022, after years of caring for babies through other organisations since 2018. Hannell and her husband Herman, together with their four boys, operate the safehouse from their family home in Somerset West.

The NPO is supported by a small team including Lloyd Poelman (Treasurer) and Werner & Stephanie Stander (COOs).

We are based in Somerset West, in the Western Cape, South Africa. For the safety and privacy of the babies in our care, our exact address is only shared after making contact with us.

💡Contact us to arrange a visit or drop-off.

Tiny Feet is entirely community-funded. We rely 100% on donations from individuals, churches, businesses, and corporate sponsors. We receive no government funding.
